Top Disney: 100 Top Ten Lists of the Best of Disney

If I were to make a Top Ten list of my favorite things, a good book would be number two right after a trip to Disney World.
Every once in a while the magic collides and I come across a good Disney related book that keeps me up reading until all hours. I recently had the opportunity to preview Top Disney: 100 Top Ten Lists of the Best of Disney, from the Man to the Mouse and Beyond by Christopher Lucas. I need to catch up on some shut eye because instead of counting sheep I've been reimagining my own lists as my head hits the pillow.

Christopher Lucas has set "Top Disney" up in an interesting manner.  He compiled one hundred lists of Disney's greatest milestones and achievements.  Each of the lists is self contained which allows the reader to enjoy the book from cover to cover or to chose topics at leisure.  Mr. Lucas' goal was to tell the Disney story in an easy to follow way.  He manages to accomplish this while presenting the facts of about a hundred years of Disney history to us in a fun way.

"Top Disney" is organized into the following sections:

Lists about...

  • Walt Disney
  • The Disney Company
  • Disney Films
  • Disney Characters
  • Cast Members (aka: Who we all want to be when we grow up)
  • Disney Television and other Media
  • Parks and attractions

Christopher Lucas and Mickey!
The amount of research that Christopher Lucas put into "Top Disney" is incredible. Dave Smith (Author: Disney A to Z) the ultimate Disney expert gave Mr. Lucas kudos on his "fine book."  There is a staggering amount of information on the pages.  What could have come across as dry and text-bookish seems like an adventure through the parks.  You can choose to read each section in a frenzy. Or you take your time and jump from topic to topic as if you are park hopping.

My favorite sections in the book are the lists of the "Most Informative Books" that are provided for future reading pleasure.  After all “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates’ loot on Treasure Island and at the bottom of the Spanish Main. Best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life.” (Walt Disney)

Thank you Christopher Lucas and the team at Lyons Press for the opportunity to review Top Disney: 100 Top Ten Lists of the Best of Disney, from the Man to the Mouse and Beyond.
