Disney Celebrates Earth Day 2019

Earth Day is Monday 4/22 and Disney is celebrating their new solar field.

Last year Disney celebrated Earth Day by announcing that they were going to stop providing plastic bags at the Disney Store.  You can read about it --> HERE <--  I was wondering how the innovative House of Mouse was going to top that. Of course Disney never disappoints.
Disney recently shared behind the scenes photos of their brand new 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility that will help to power Walt Disney World. The new solar farm joins the infamous Mickey-shaped 5MW solar park that Disney installed next to Epcot center in 2016. It will provide up to 25% of the power used by Disney World. This is enough renewable clean energy to operate two of Disney’s Florida based theme parks annually.

The solar field is Disney's largest endeavor in solar energy to date. It is located outside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The field is comprised of 518,000 solar panels, which would be enough to power 10,000 homes for a year.  It will reduce greenhouse gases by more than 50,000 tons a year.  Put in perspective that is like removing 9,000-10,000 automobiles from the roads a year.

The solar facility also provides an important habitat for native wildlife. A team of Disney environmental and horticulture experts collaborated to help make more than two-thirds of the facility pollinator friendly.  The goal is to create a nurturing and welcoming habitat for butterflies, bees and other insects.
Disney's solar facility was built in collaboration with Reedy Creek Improvement and Origis Energy USA.
