Street Lamp Time Travel in Magic Kingdom

There is a lot of magic to be found in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park and it isn’t just in the rides, attractions, and characters– its in the details!

When the Magic Kingdom concept was created over at Disneyland it was mimicked in many ways in Florida.  The entranceway starting with a hub to Main Street USA, followed by a strip of street and shops opening up to the real hub– the center that can lead you to all the lands of Magic Kingdom (Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland).

If you stop and look at the details as you walk up Main Street there a couple really cool and easy to miss details worth celebrating.  My favorites are the imagineer names on the windows (check out the book “Windows on Main Street” for more info) and the lamp posts.  ?As you walk up the street you will see that the stretch of Main Street USA starts with turn of the century lamps and as you make your way back out into the hub near Cinderella’s Castle the lamps transition into the modern day street lamps that can be found in other areas of the parks.

Although my picture is blurry here is a snapshot of one of the older lamps:

And here is the ones you are probably most farmiliar with seeing since they can be found in both the Castle and entrance hubs:

After researching this a little bit it was meant to intentionally create a feeling that when you walked through Main Street and up to the Castle hub that the world was changing.  And no matter how many times you find yourself in the hub looking up at the castle its clear that you have walked into a modern, fantastical, adventurous world brimming with magic and excitement.
