Red, White and Disney- A fresh new look at American History at Walt Disney World

Red, White and Disney is a fresh new look at American History at Walt Disney World.

It is written by Walt Disney College Program alumni Brittany DiCologero.  The book takes the reader on an interesting walk through each section of Walt Disney World pointing out fun, historical tidbits that will leave true Disney fans wanting more.

Each chapter in Red, White and Disney filled me with the feeling of anticipation that I experience walking up Main Street for the first time each Disney trip. The book starts with the inspiration for Main Street and takes us through points in history until we wind up in modern day Disney Springs. Ms. DiCologero does not wow the reader with a nail biting page turner but she delivers history in an easy to read, informative and enjoyable jaunt through each land of the park.

The book shows us how to find Walt's America at Disney World.  While incorporating his love for America in Disney World, Walt's patriotism shines through in every inch of the parks.  Some nods to history are more accurate while others take some creative license.  Ms.DiCologero gives the reader nice insight into the not only the intention of the attraction but the historical accuracy and how things may have been altered to flow in a theme park.

There are no spoilers here but I was riveted by the chapter on Dinoland. Dinoland is a section of Animal Kingdom that I had never been impressed by. I was always confused as to why it was even included in the park. I will walk through it a little slower and look at things more carefully now that I have a taste of the history behind its inclusion in the park. Additionally, the chapter on Frontierland left me wanting more!

Red, White and Disney belongs on every true Disney fan's bookshelf.  Ms. DiCologero's goal is that her book adds to the reader's understanding of how Disney parks were designed.  She hopes it inspires further exploration and interest in American History.

About the Author:

Brittany DiCologero has been researching the history of the Walt Disney World Resort since she learned how to read and write. Following her completion of coursework towards a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from St. Anselm College, she worked for the Walt Disney Company through the Disney College Program in DinoLand U.S.A., and Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show. She is a freelance writer for various travel and lifestyle websites many of which focus on Disney including her own blog, CastlePartyBlog. Brittany DiCologero's unique guide will tell you nothing about how long you'll wait for an attraction or how to save money on dinner or even how to find your next Hidden Mickey. But it will tell you everything you need to know about how to find America at Walt Disney World.
