Star Wars Day: A Bit Of History

HAPPY STAR WARS DAY or as others fondly call this holiday MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU DAY!!

Funny enough, this holiday is one of the most beloved of nerds and geeks of all kinds around the world as the one day to celebrate this epic, pop culture icon we all know as Star Wars. Mostly, this holiday is celebrated by watching the Entire Star Wars Saga (Yes…including Episode 1: Phantom Menace). There have also been some people who host full on Star Wars Parties that consist of Lightsaber duels, playing Star Wars themed board and video games, and even hosting a banquet of all Star Wars themed cuisine.

This Season, Big Bang Theory joined in on the fun.
And yes...that is how excited we get in telling others of the cleverness of this holiday...

According to, we can thank Margaret Thatcher for this glorious holiday. Apparently, on the day Thatcher was elected Britain’s first woman prime minister in 1979, her party decided to post a newspaper ad in the London Evening News. The ad read "May the Fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations.” Ever since then, fans everywhere flock to different events and plague social media with appropriate memes and messages.

What does Disney have to do with all this?

Well other than having purchased the company (Lucasfilm) last year, Disney has also been hosting Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It first hosted it in 1997 and was then held in 2000, 2001, and annually since 2003. Check out this clip for this year’s newest clip of what to expect for this year’s festivities.

Have a great day and may the force be with you!!
