Yet another movie that fills me with nostalgia of my childhood is The Little Mermaid. Now, don't get me wrong-- I saw all the best originals growing up too! My parents introduced us to all the classics they had grown up with including my fave Cinderella and my sisters fave Sleeping Beauty (and everyone's favorite Mary Poppins). But never did we spend so many hours playing (and arguing over who got to be the star) then we did in the pool as Ariel. From swimming underwater like we had fins to trying to swing our wet hair back as Ariel did when popping up out of the ocean we loved this film!
A few feature film and theme park fun facts:
When Max first finds Ariel propped up on the boat he licks the right side of her face... But then Ariel wipes the left side! Whoops!!
Mickey, Donald, and Goofy can be seen at the beginning of the movie for just a quick glance as King Triton passes by (they were only drawn into a few frames so don't blink!)!
The clam-mobiles used in The Seas with Nemo and Friends ride (and ultimately both Little Mermaid rides coast to coast ) were actually dreamed up right after the Little Mermaid was released!
The original plans for both a Little Mermaid ride and a Beauty and the Beast ride in the early 90s were scrapped for two decades because of the plans for Space Mountain!
Now, Ariel's Undersea Adventure at Disneys California Adventure park in Anaheim is one of my all time favorites! I rode it about a dozen times during my 2011 trip and a half dozen more this year. I love it because of the nostalgia and the magic and because I love that style ride. Trust me, if you haven't been to the New Fantasyland yet this is going to be a MUST and a family favorite! It will be one of my first stops in March (I know, I haven't ridden yet but from the Disney Parks Blog posts its similar enough to its west coast predecessor that I am confident you will agree!)
